On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster Steve Bermel to discuss a handful of Buffalo Sabres and Bills topics, including how the Sabres have managed to avoid a complete slop of a playoff race in the Eastern conference.

While it’s not mathematically locked in yet, the Sabres are going to break their historic 14-year NHL playoff drought within the next few weeks. Buffalo currently leads Tampa in the Atlantic division (though Tampa has two games in hand) and are only one point back of Carolina for most points in the conference. Regardless if the Sabres win the conference and/or division or not, one thing Sabres fans have been saved from is the anxiety of a playoff spot race. Buffalo’s torrid place has them a full tier above several other teams in the conference and that’s a good thing of course, because the East is just a slop with a half dozen teams within three points of being in the playoffs or out entirely. Montreal, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Boston, New York Islanders and Columbus are all stacked near each other with points, not to mention Ottawa still having a fair shot at getting in as well.

The guys talk about while there’s the pressure of trying to get a high seed and home ice advantage, at least they can enjoy the next few weeks without having to worry about making the playoffs.
