School is officially back in session on Talking Buffalo, and Matt Warren joins Patrick Moran to hand out his weekly Buffalo Bills positional grades following a frustrating loss to the New England Patriots.

This one gets ugly.

Patrick and Matt start with Joe Brady and the coaching staff, questioning Buffalo’s game plan, lack of adjustments, limited usage of James Cook and Dalton Kincaid, and the defensive approach against Drake Maye. Matt delivers his first F of the season to the Bills coaching staff.

They also take a deep dive into Josh Allen’s uneven performance, including the late interception, the failed two-point conversion and why Bills fans shouldn’t suddenly lose perspective on one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks.

There are positives. Keon Coleman continues to emerge, while the defensive front—led by Deone Walker and Greg Rousseau—was arguably Buffalo’s biggest bright spot.

But the back seven is another story. Matt has major concerns about the linebackers, Max Hairston and the secondary as Buffalo continues to struggle with communication, coverage and execution.

Patrick and Matt also discuss Dion Dawkins’ rough performance, Dalton Kincaid’s shockingly limited involvement, whether Buffalo needs a change at linebacker, and whether the Bills should consider giving IGB a larger role at cornerback.

🔑 KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Joe Brady and the coaching staff earned an F. Matt strongly criticized the game plan and Buffalo’s failure to adjust, especially after D.J. Moore left the game.
  • Josh Allen wasn’t good, but the reaction has gone too far. His late interception was costly and his failed two-point conversion was another missed opportunity, but Patrick and Matt push back against the idea that one poor game changes who Allen is.
  • Buffalo needs to get its best offensive weapons involved. James Cook finished with only 12 carries, while Dalton Kincaid received just two targets—usage that Patrick and Matt consider unacceptable.
  • The Bills’ defensive front was the bright spot. Deone Walker continues to look like a potential star, while Greg Rousseau generated consistent pressure.
  • The back seven is becoming a legitimate concern. Linebacker play, Max Hairston’s struggles, Cole Bishop’s slow start and continued communication problems in the secondary are becoming difficult to dismiss.
